Einstein once said, “When I do not look at the moon I know it is still there.” Or is it? When I come to my living room from the kitchen is the kitchen still there? You may say of course it is, but how can we prove that? We only know the kitchen is there when someone can perceive it. As I re-enter my kitchen, does my mind re-create it once again?
In business there are always copycats. In fact, if someone tries to emulate you, be flattered. That means someone recognizes your talents. If you know you are accomplishing amazing things, there is no need to worry about the competitors behind you. A successful life is partially the result of not worrying about what was behind us.
What happens when we face backwards? We sometimes see our failures and hurdles that were not overcome. The only thing we should reach back for are our great memories and accomplishments. If we fearlessly face the future, there are really no problems behind us. In other words, when we focus on the things that are in front of us, the past does not exist.
With every step we take and every act we observe, we are actually creating our world. Whichever direction we look, whether through a high-power telescope or microscope, our brains are creating our universe. We expect to find something, so we do. Because of this, we may never see the smallest particle or the edge of the cosmos. In the new area of unified string theory, it is becoming more believable that the universe may simply be a manifestation of our observation of it.
If you want to fly up (or fully live your unlimited potential), it is important to savor the present moment, but also enjoy what is in front of us. In setting a course for our lives, it is much more exciting to journey forward. Climb a new mountain. Paint a new picture. Compose a new song. Bake a new recipe. Looking over our shoulder is usually a waste of time. There is nothing behind us except the re-creation of our past.
